Meet Mrs. Huskey

Well, hello! I’m so glad you stopped by to learn more about me!! My name is Jennifer Huskey and before I start I do want to say that I absolutely LOVE every moment I spend in the classroom! There is no other job that makes me smile and brings such joy into my life other than teaching and being with my students. The 2010-2011 school year marks my third year as a first grade teacher. I have often heard that first grade is a little overwhelming, but is the most rewarding grade to teach. I completely agree. First grade is a year cram-packed with academic and social development and it is astonishing to watch it take place inside the classroom.

I graduated from Sevier County High School in 2002. I continued my education at Carson-Newman College where I graduated with my Bachelor’s Degree in 2007 in Early Childhood Education with PreK-3 Licensure. Just last August, I finished up my Master’s Degree in Children’s Literacy Development at TUI University. I will be starting my Education Specialist Degree in August through Lincoln Memorial University. Even though I'm going to be busy-- I'm looking forward to learning new things!

My first teaching job was at Jones Cove Elementary School teaching PreK where I taught, but was unable to continue the entire year. I soon took an interim position filling in for a very dear friend of mine teaching Kindergarten at Sevierville Primary School. In 2008, I was fortunate to be hired at Pigeon Forge Primary as a first grade teacher in the Sevier County School District Sevier County Board of Education

My family is a very important aspect in my life which seems to keep me busy. I married my best friend, the true love of my life on July 7, 2007 and everyday has been an absolute blessing. He is the Wellness Manager for the City of Gatlinburg and is a Personal Trainer. You can just imagine how busy he keeps me after school! We just celebrated our 3rd anniversary and we were able to celebrate together with our family, in Maui! Needless to say, it was an adjustment to get back into the swing of "back to school mode!"  We do not have any children yet, but we do have a precious cat, Grady whom we love to pieces. My parents are also very close to me and live only minutes away. My mom is my best friend and I’m my daddy’s little girl.
Here are some fascinating facts about me:

• My husband and I both have the same birthday
• I’ve always dreamed of being a teacher---my whole life!
• When I was in the third grade, I started piano lessons and continued to take them until I graduated high school and I still play in my free time.
• I love staying up late!
• In the last four years I was lucky enough to finally meet my two very best friends who both happen to be fabulous teachers!!
• When I watch the Tennessee Vols run through the power T right before kick-off, I literally feel all wiggly and giggly inside!!.
• On the side my friends and I run a business! We specialize in event planning, teaching resources craft ideas, & organizational tips! Check us out! Frogs, Bees, & Under the Seas!
